Ganapati Decoration at Home

Hi,

I spend my free time in shopping and decorating my house. I usually shop for clothes, accessories, footwear and so on, but I love collecting home decor articles, artificial flowers, stones, wall hangings and all that best suits the four rooms of my house. It all started when I came to Mumbai in the year 2002, I got the liberty to explore places which sold such decorative things in and outside Mumbai. The exposure build the confidence of buying decor material and I started decorating my house.

Shree Ganesh Chaturthi' is the most celebrated festival in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai city. People from all religions, different backgrounds, come together to celebrate it. Each year, Lord Ganesha, visit million houses for 10 days. So people take all the care to render their service to their favorite deity, ‘Lord Ganesha’.
But every time, to décor a house, for arrival of Him, requires a lot of time. It takes a lot of thinking & creativity. In today’s fast world, it’s nearly impossible for a family, to manage all the decoration, in such a less time.

But the variety of material available in Mumbai indeed gave me the opportunity to generate ideas of displaying them in a different fashion during festivals.I give time for this by planning six months prior the day.

The plan begins with the theme.Once the theme is decided I start buying materials required for the same.

For the above Ganapti Theme [Talawatla Ganpati]a tank was required, I  saw a sale on children's swimming tank which was 122 cm in diameters.I took it to keep at the centre which will represent as a lake or a pond in the garden.Since I enjoy shopping artificial flowers, I already have a huge collection of bunches, bouquets, creeper plants ranging from 5-7 feet, floating flowers. The blue colour tank should look natural hence I covered it with flowers and creepers then added floating flowers, artificial floating ducks, tortoise and fishes in the water to enhance its beauty.

The base should be green hence I bought a a green carpet size of 12*7 feet which gave a look and feel of garden lawn. Then finally placed the tank on to the carpet. At its sides I put 10 bricks of sponges and inserted Tulip flowers on to it and placed them at the entrance of the lawn and the lake.

Now comes the background, the backdrop was bought which suited best to the theme. The cloth was hung from the ceiling till the ground thus the entire place was a miniature representation of the garden with a pond.

This miniature fits in the gallery or the 1/4 of your Living Room, the remaining part of the room can be decorated with fresh flowers, few lighting and Rangoli[ancient cultural tradition and folk art from India].On the pink curtains at the ceiling bright Ashtavinayak[literally meaning "eight Ganeshas" in Sanskrit] are displayed.
In case of the sofa or divan we need to see that the covers, the bed sheets and pillows should match. the colours can be contrast or in the similar fashion of the theme. In the wall unit I have put different collections of Lord Ganesha and two elephants on the top. The entire wall unit is illuminated with the electrical diya lightings.

The ceiling and floors are again kept simple so that as you enter the room focus directly falls on the Ganesha Idol and it doesn't look flashy or loud.
Here is my first year Ganesh Chaturthi Decoration and will bring in some more next week.Till then take care.Keep in touch.

In the help of such true devotees, we are going to present… ‘Festival Dhamaal’ to give tips and suggestions to add different touch to your festival..."Ganpati Bappa Moraya!!"
